A Soundview man, who investigators say preyed on young hookers in the Hunts Point section, has been convicted in three attacks that occurred in April and June of 2010.
James Schlau, 47, of 924 Fteley Avenue, was found guilty by a jury at the Bronx Hall of Justice, on June 24.
Schlau, who has been a registered sex offender since a 2005 conviction in Minnesota, was convicted of three brutal attacks in which the suspect put razor blades to the throats of his victims.
Investigators say the attacks began on April 18, at 11 p.m., a 32-year-old woman was picked up at Faile Street and was attacked along Whittier Street, the victim was threatened with a box cutter and forced to perform oral sex.
The second attack took place on June 16, when a 23-year-old female jumped into the suspect’s car along Hunts Point Avenue, at 3 a.m., when the suspect drove the victim to Longfellow Avenue, where he once again pulled a razor and demanded oral sex. This time the suspect also attempted to rape the woman unsuccessfully.
In the last case, a 20-year-old woman got into the perpetrator's vehicle at 4:45 a.m., on June 28, at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Manida Avenue and driven to Burnett Place, where the victim was forced to perform oral sex on the individual and was later raped.
Working with a description of both the suspect and the vehicle, police stopped Schlau the following night and he was arrested.
After a four-week trial, the jury deliberated for less than half an hour to find Schlau guilty to multiple counts of sex assault, rape and weapons possession and faces up to 100-year's behind bars when he is sentenced on July 19.
A pair of calls to Jayne Brayer, Schlau's attorney were not returned before the deadline of this article. In one published account Brayer claimed Schlau admitted that her client frequented hooker's, but that he did not attack them.
An unidentified woman answering the phone at Schlau's family home, stated, "I have no news for you, I'm sorry. I can't say anything to you, I'm sorry."
